Maligayang Pasko! Well, almost. It’s Christmas Eve, so I’m granting myself a present and actually getting a blog post down. This is another Kulinarya catch up post, for the November theme of rellenos. This year, the Doctor and I are hosting a Christmas lunch with our usual cookoff teams – Celeste from Berry Travels and [...] The advantage to playing catch up is that I get to see what everyone else has done already, and just pick the one that looks the best (or easiest!), or that I have the ingredients for already. The disadvantage is that I’m already running out of days in the month that I promised myself [...] Here’s the second part of my two-in-one Kulinarya Challenge catch-up… Empanadas! These Spanish-inspired meat pastries are usually made with a very rich, oily pastry, which is then deep-fried. So considering I used TVP, frozen puff pastry and baked them, I’m not sure these really should count towards having completed the theme… But let’s [...] I’m not quite sure how Shanghai (the city) figures into the name of lumpia Shanghai, but according to Andrea Nguyen (Asian Dumplings), apparently the lumpia part comes from the Hokkien lunpia (潤餅), meaning “spring rolls”. Lumpia were featured in the Kulinarya Cooking Challenge for August 2010, and since they are similar in concept to [...] If there is one thing that I am determined to do better at, it’s focusing my energies into a single (okay, maybe up to three) direction. I want to learn more Filipino food and language. I want to learn patisserie “properly” (ie: classes and/or staging). I want to start putting up cooking videos rather than [...] The Kulinarya Cooking Club was started by a group of Filipino foodies living in Sydney, who are passionate about the Filipino culture and its colourful cuisine.
