And I’m back on the air! But not yet cooking – that’s for tomorrow. Today I bring you the first bit of sewing I’ve done in a while, with one of the most adorable fabrics I could not pass up.
I went fabric and craft shopping last weekend, and came across this black and white printed cotton drill – a heavy duty fabric usually used for crafts or children’s clothes. I think the pattern’s meant to be clouds or something, but at $2 in the remnant bin, I couldn’t resist letting it go. Sirene mentioned that it would be perfect for making a bento bag, and I was happy to oblige.
I found a length of cord in my trims box, and added a couple of flower-shaped buttons just for added cuteness. The cord wasn’t quite long enough for a proper tie, so I just made it a single drawstring. I zigzag-serged all the seams and sealed the ends of the cord with clear nailpolish.
Honestly, it’s probably too big. It fits my largest bento box (600ml) and chopsticks with plenty of room to spare.
In fact, it fits both my largest bento boxes and full-size cutlery laying on its side. So maybe it’s not quite ideal for two people to use, but a single bento, plus cutlery (and snacks) will fit very comfortably. So, now I’ve got my fingers warmed up on the sewing machine, there’ll be heaps more baking tomorrow!
So cute! Love the cloud pattern. I have an onigiri box in the same style as your red one!
The infamous “Lube Sheep” pattern? XD When I saw it at Daiso, I couldn’t pass it up either! XD
